Some members join Vyse's crew as part of the story, while others must be sought out by the player and brought on board. Some characters may have conditions that need to be fulfilled before being recruited. Many are as simple as being at far along the story enough, while others require that Vyse impress them in some way before signing on.
Unique to Arcadia, Vyse's crew is comprised members from all over the world. Some crew members will comment on this while living on Crescent Isle.
Crew members also appear in various roles on Crescent Isle once it has been established as a hideout. Many of them will initially express discontent with their living circumstances on Crescent Isle and request money and sometimes items from Vyse to upgrade their services. Fulfilling their requests will greatly expand the items available to Vyse as well as generally improving the aesthetics and mood across the island.
After the final battle at Soltis, Vyse's crew disbands as the fight against Valua is over. Some return home, but many decide to settle in new Valua to rebuild and pursue new opportunities. Only Kirala, if recruited, will remain on Crescent Isle.
Crew members play a major role in ship battles, where they add additional abilities that can be called to protect the ship or enhance its attacks. Some crew members have active abilities that can be selected under "Crew" during a ship battle, while others provide passive buffs that are active throughout each battle.
There are eleven positions on the ship that can be filled, with two potential characters to fill each role. Only one character can be active in a job at any time; these members are the ones who can be called on in battle. As a bonus, the characters can be seen working around the Delphinus. In addition, if the party's Spirit Points are completely full, a Super Move called Blue Rogues can be called upon, which uses all active crew members to damage enemies and heal allies.
